It’s been a cold, rough winter season but finals are done and EDC Las Vegas is right around the corner. Whether you’re laying out on a white, sandy beach, visiting family out of town, cruising down the freeway in a convertible, slaving away at your summer job, taking a bike ride with friends, or eating a popsicle in the dazzling heat, check out these feel-good tracks that will instantly have you smiling and dancing. Close friends, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and good vibes…that’s what summer’s all about, right?
This track represents the beautiful marriage between a melodic beat, layered synths, and a catchy loop. Literally sounding like the chanting of a million souls all singing together in a chorus, the song gives off a chilling sensation of what summer is supposed to sound like. Just check out the video: rebellious teenagers riding their bikes and skateboards into the woods and going on an adventure late into the night. Remember those summer moments? This song will remind you.
Showtek and Justin Prime’s “Cannonball” is for the summer wild child. Just as the title gives away, the track is like a little ball of fire waiting to explode. With a slight, light dubstep and a huge build up, get ready to dance your pants off and “show us what you got when the mother-bleepin’ beat drops!”
It’s a beautiful thing when the sounds of a pop-rock band harmonize beautifully with the beats of an EDM DJ. Light, catchy, and incredibly chilling, this song is perfect for an adventure out with your friends or a nighttime escapade with your summer love.
Calvin Harris does it again. His knack for finding some of the greatest, complementary vocals led this song into the hands of Ellie Goulding. Goulding’s voice seems to be forefront of EDM. No stranger to the biz, her euphoric vocals blend perfectly with Harris’ riveting electronic beats. Maybe you’re dancing with someone you found chemistry with or spending the night with a summer fling, either way…this is perfect.
Who knew that song about something so depressing can make you feel so good? Prolonging its stay at the No. 1 song on Beatport, this remix of Lana Del Rey’s grand track is a beautiful electro house song what will definitely get you ready to part from your summertime fling. With a song like this to cope with…who cares about a breakup?
Windows down, the breeze blowing in your hair, and a carefree outlook. This is the perfect setting for this joyful song. As expected, Armin rushes in with extraordinary production in this track. Although a little bit pop-y compared to Armin’s previous trance records, the track is still a catchy, easy-listening tune that many people can enjoy. With singular piano leads and an up-tempo beat, this song screams “hello summer.”
UK-based garage-house duo, Disclosure, has certainly created their own niche sound apart from other major EDM artists. Their song “Latch” is the perfect uplifting, easygoing, and mellow track for the summer. A crossover between a catchy electro beat, relaxed kick-drum, and Sam Smith’s smooth R&B vocals, the song definitely creates a lovely ambiance that’ll make you want to unwind and just chill out.
The “Nicktim” track that we’ve all been waiting for since 2011 is finally out and does not disappoint. We first fell in love with the beat a couple years back and now we can fall in love with the whole package. Known for his catchy songs that will literally be stuck in your head for years (i.e. Levels), Avicii does it again, this time with fellow youngin’ Nicky Romero. With the light synths and tuneful vocals this song is something that’ll make everyone dance. It won’t be a surprise if this track, too, lingers around for another couple years. It’s that good.
Beautifully written, composed, and executed, Zedd’s “Clarity,” the title track of his first studio album, is also the best on the release. Zedd has quickly become one of the most highly revered artists in the EDM industry and with this massive tune, it is clear why. “Clarity” features sterling melodies, electrifying breakdowns, and emotive vocals from English singer, Foxes. Heart-breaking and bitter-sweet, the lyrics will pierce through even the most cold-hearted of souls. If your summer involves a chaotic yet powerful love affair, be careful with this song…it may have you in tears.
Smooth, cool, and incredibly groovy, the robots’ “Get Lucky” takes the cake as a song of the summer. Fully released just a couple weeks ago, you can finally be done with all of the fan-made remixes and infinite daft loop. The song emulates the old-school Nile Rogers funk back from the 70′s and 80′s with his chic and polished guitar riff, blending flawlessly with Pharrell Williams’ falsetto and Daft Punk’s electronic vocoder hook. Casual and laid-back, Daft Punk brings disco back with a bang just in time for the season’s hot spell. With lyrics like, “we’re up all night ’til the sun, we’re up all night to get some, we’re up all night for good fun, we’re up all night to get lucky” who would argue about this killer track being the anthem of the summer?
