After awhile, it is always a good idea to change things up and explore different styles of music. Listening to new styles of music can really open your eyes to all sorts of amazing artists you never would have known you’d like, especially when it comes to electronic music. There are so many people that think electronica is redundant and boring, but after giving it a chance they loved it. Sadly, electronic music usually gets a bad rap for being repetitive and unimaginative, which is absolutely not true. Electronic music is perhaps one of the most diverse and creative styles of music that exists.
The vast amount of electronica artists can be daunting. But, if you are trying to get into electronica music, here are some big names that you should take a listen to and explore from there.
Daft Punk is one of the biggest names in electronic music ever, and for good reason. They have been producing some of the most renowned electronic dance music since the early 90′s. It’s almost impossible to have never heard their music. Perhaps, the most popular and recognizable would be “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.
However, a good album to start out on would be “Discovery”. Classic tracks like “One More Time”, and “Voyager” are all time EDM classics. Daft Punk produces funky beats with fun lyrics that is great music to jam along to.
Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”, not dead maw-five) is another big artist that has been on the electronica scene for ages. Apparently, he received his name after discovering that there was a dead mouse in his computer, thus his friends decided to nick name him “dead mouse guy”.
Deadmau5 is known for having awesome melodies and very danceable beats. Arguably his most popular song “Ghosts n Stuff” really features what Deadmau5 is all about. A great album to start with from Deadmau5 is “Random Album Title” or “Get Scraped”.
This may be a bit of a controversial pick to some, however you can’t ignore someone like Skrillex, someone who practically redefined the dubstep scene. There are also other great dubstep artists, such as Nit Grit and Flux Pavillion that are worth a listen to as well.
Now, I know. Dubstep gets an even harsh rep, but you will find that there are great dubstep artists if you give them a chance. Skrillex is a good place to start with songs like “Bangarang” and “Slats Slats Slats”. They feature fun, danceable beats that may be a little bit too much for some.
There are many different styles of electronic dance music. Part of the fun is exploring and finding what you like! Hopefully this provides a bit of a stepping-stone on your journey to becoming an EDM fan. Soon you’ll be hitting up music festivals all over the world!
