Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, is among the few producers who have remained relevant in the EDM world for an extended period of time. Active since the 90’s, Bassnectar has produced some of the most innovative tracks in the industry, leading the way for the diversification of EDM. His sound is influenced by his interest in heavy metal and rock bands such as Megadeth, Metallica, and Nirvana. He has collaborated with artists such as Sound Tribe Sector 9, Lupe Fiasco, Ellie Goulding and Datsik, and has played a wide variety of festivals such as Camp Bisco, Electric Forest, and Lollapalooza. Bassnectar is known for his live performances and light shows. He has been credited with coordinating the “Bass Center” show series’ as well as a similar, yet larger series: “Bass Island.” In addition to the artistic aspect of his work, Ashton is passionate about socio-political issues. He actively promotes and donates to several non-profit and not-for-profit charities for social and economic well-being. He donated $1 from every ticket sold on his 2011 tour to three organizations that were chosen by fan response through online voting. The Dollar Per Basshead program evolved from this concept and more than $350,000 has been donated to charity since its inception.
